He didn’t come home early yesterday
He wasn’t late
Either
Just a strange feeling
About it
Nerves
Maybe
But she still didn’t feel great
About it
She remembered the last time she had this feeling
She had ignored it for months
Leading to devastation
Months
Of healing
It shouldn’t hurt
She thought
To ask him this evening
But it had been early
When she got the text
He’d be late tonight
Alright
This shouldn’t be enough to start a fight
But she couldn’t sleep
Right away
She snapped awake
On the couch
When she heard a sound
That was more than the TV in the background
“Waiting for me?”
He asked her
That smile
Hadn’t been on his face in a while
Directed at her
Made her return it
“Maybe…”
But that didn’t change her question
“Why were –“
“I was talking to Truth.”
Her face twisted
Slightly
Thinking

To My Wife
It’s funny right
You’re reading this
Seeing this
Might be somewhere in the future
Might be at the end of my life
I knew you were my type
Could have been what you looked like
5’5”
That height
That night
Lips
That smile
Curves
Waist that moved
Sigh
Imagery
But not reality
That’s not what I act like
The fact right
I caught a glimpse
From the back
Right
Silhouette
You turned left
Walked away
I couldn’t even tell what you looked like
Took like
The right opportunity
Before we talked
Shared common ground
Back story
What brought you here
The almighty
Holy
You sound so religious
But it was spirituality
That moved us closer
Slowly
Ever since that first day
We agreed that
You wanted to get to know me
Funny right
You’re reading this
Seeing this
Knowing I liked your skirts
Tight
Visualising every curve
Your eyes
Telling … Continue reading
Interest
This is for you
Yes you
The one hesitating
Questioning
Does he share my interest
Does he like me
Yes he likes you
What are is true inter –tents
Something
Something
The power of the internet
Allows him to tell you
Since first you met
Time the river
Didn’t erode
As it usually might do
It’s the face
The grace
Nervousness
Hidden by that need to be confident
He could see right through
There was never a place
So he left it alone
Never forgetting your hips
And the conversations
You never had
Thinking to yourself
He has no interest
And rejection
Would feel a little bad
Yes you
This is for you
How do you know
Because you remembered that time
You would have liked to
Meet lips to lips
Or hoped he would write you
A poem so touching
It would feel as if
It was your body … Continue reading
Let ‘Em Have It
Let ‘em have it
All the tough talk
Their lack of faux pas
The times they said you were so soft
Saying you didn’t get dirty enough
That you couldn’t soap off
The funny thing about putting one line of truth
In a web of deceit
Is it
Catches the flies and triggers the spiders
Like that one episode of sliders
Where they mixed them with wasps
Let ‘em have it
Are you with me so far
Proclaimed king before I could walk
Lost my legs half way to the throne
And I was so lost
Have enough power to start a revolution
But I’m no boss
They keep saying
Let ‘em have it
Even when my poetry is deeper than anything
You’ve read before
Anyone’s put
In your head before
Because most have never made it that six feet
Never been
Left for dead before
Dug their way back … Continue reading
100 Day Story: Day 00005
“Does she need a lover
Or a brother
Or maybe the figure of a father?
Does she love me
Enough to
Put me above her
Every other?
Is she using me to buffer
The feedback from her mother?
I mean…”
This even – ing
He was contemplating
The merits of going home
Was it home
Was it just a covering
He shared with other bodies
Where he wasn’t all alone
That’s when
He saw the number on the phone
“Truth.”
He was silent after the greeting
Truth spoke
Evoked
Memories
That made him say
“Nice to hear your voice.
It’s been a long time
And no
The choice wasn’t fully mine.”
Truth interrupted
Hearing the doubt in his wording
urging
him to change his verse and
“Of course.
You crossed my mind
Yesterday.
If I love her
That’s not something I’m supposed to say.
I was thinking
Because of that … Continue reading
