Same job
Different day
He needed a change
Or a different way
To think about life
Only made the days longer
On his break
Today the site
Was on the lake
Shore to be exact
Where
He wasn’t sure
But if he had thought back
He would have remembered that
She had an office on the third floor
Four doors
Away from where he was working
And the worst thing
Is she saw him
And the first thing
She thought was
A question
“Why am I hurting?”
Then
“I wonder
Did I hurt him?”
His mind wasn’t quite aware
Because
He was looking directly at her window
But it was a glass stare
She contemplated going down
To ground level
But figured
He was on a short reprieve
And would be gone by the time
She reached the last stair
Her heart quickened
“Did he really care?”
