To Know me Well – part 1

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

I’m an obnoxious poet
Because I don’t memorise lines
That won’t sell
Will lead you to believe
I can’t perform
If you don’t know me
Well
From the stories I tell
You might say my best poems
Are when I philosophise
If there’s a heaven or hell
If we’re living in hell or jail
But I’m more of a pleasure snail
I’m saying that
With a wink and a smile
Inside joke
For the women
Who know me
Well
I take my time
Kind of a deviant
Art-ist
So I’m already going to hell
Classified
As an amateur
Professional
Who can tell
That there are women
Who want
To understand these words
Without the experience
I’m saying this
While shaking my head
I don’t kiss and
Spell
Well
That was before
I learned how to ride the waves
Maintaining
The head of … Continue reading

A Broken System

I am not against structure. That was one of the things I had to be sure about while I wrote this piece. What I am against though, is a culture where some prosper and some suffer through negligence and not merit. That is not a world that supports growth in humanity. Maybe since the advent of money or the start of a way to measure material wealth, without actually possessing said materials, lines have become harder and harder to draw. We promote a philosophy that states hard work should be rewarded and laziness punished. Yet, it would be naive to believe that we live in environments where hard work is currently the sole factor in a person’s achievements. Not all those who struggle lack ambition and not all those who excel did the work necessary. There might have been a time that was an ideal truth but we live in … Continue reading

Meaning

Black Panther in a cage
Made for animals
Half his size
Angry
He tries
To bury it
There are no longer
Any tears in his eyes
Can’t remember the last time
He sent a prayer to the skies
So on this particular day
He was surprised
To feel a calm
Come over his mind
Be easy my son
It’s not your time
There was still frustration
Watching
The injustice
Outside of his domain
Watching
The weak hearted lay claim
Treat life
Like it was
And the people in it
Like
A game
If he had known the rules
When he was a cub
He would have played
Left them all maimed
They had found out early
He could never be tamed
Locked him up
Laughed
Because at first
They thought he lost his mind
Leaving him incapable
Of using a limb
Make him lame
But for his sake
It was … Continue reading

100 Day Story: Day 007

She woke up
From bliss
Sleep
She didn’t remember when
It had happened
But as her consciousness came
She knew
It had come to an end
Guilt
She couldn’t pretend
The feeling of betraying a friend
Used him
Somewhere in there
A question
She couldn’t stay
Will it offend
Actions
She couldn’t defend
This
Couldn’t be home
Why
Her mind backtracked
To her clothing
Noting
He was peaceful
Lightly snoring
Her heart skipped
Not him
It can’t be
Tonight was a vacation
Relaxing
Wasn’t supposed to be reality
Facts in
Were otherwise
Not him
She herself looking longingly
At his back
And
She had to resist
The temptation to reach out
With her right hand
It was early morning
So she told herself
She wasn’t leaving
Like a thief in the night
And
While she was driving
Glimpses of bodies entwined
Flashed through her mind
And
Writhing
She could feel… Continue reading

100 Day Story: Day 006

His phone had rang
And he sprang
As soon as he saw the caller
He was speculating
If he should have called her
Home alone
At the time
The Truth
Wasn’t at his place
Went to see a mother
They had fought over
Some minor details
And he couldn’t be bothered
So when she
Had asked to come over
Citing
Neglect
No baby at home
And being a little too sober
He hadn’t said no
So
Here he was
Friday night in
Senses heightening
At the sound of a doorbell
Inviting her in
The door closes
Silence
He offers her something to drink
Before either starts to think
Lips first
Then embrace
Her hands on his shoulder
His around her waist
On his lap
She was no longer afraid
To look at his face
The position was vulgar
But he was caught
In her grace
Breathing
Her chest was moving … Continue reading
