Seeking Self-Awareness within Christianity

My knowledge of other religions is superficial and my knowledge of Christianity is just a little more in depth so it’s only natural that I would begin with exploring the thought of self-awareness through the lens of Christianity first. This thought is not coming from a place of attack on anyone’s beliefs or for the purpose of a Bible quoting war. It is simply an expression of the place where I know myself to exist, a place where there is no conflict between my spirituality and my self-awareness, the place where I AM.

If you are a Christian or hold onto a Christian belief then it makes sense to me that the headline should be that the Christ came; all other stories are simply background or build up. So, with that in mind I say this, the foundation of Christianity is Love. God came into the world because of Love … Continue reading

A Part of What It Takes

What do you think the biggest problem is that we are facing as a nation? What is a possible solution?

As I was reading this question, I was finding it difficult to answer. I’ve never really thought about or looked into what the biggest problem facing Canada as a nation is. Then I started to wonder how many other Canadians are there that have also never thought about this. The fewer people that know about the problems we are facing, the fewer people there are that pay attention to the world around them. If everyone is caught up in their own bubble then it is not possible for all of us to have the same goal. Thinking about it that way leads me to believe the biggest problem facing Canadians is the fact that we do not have a common focus. In order for us to be great we all … Continue reading

A Broken System

I am not against structure. That was one of the things I had to be sure about while I wrote this piece. What I am against though, is a culture where some prosper and some suffer through negligence and not merit. That is not a world that supports growth in humanity. Maybe since the advent of money or the start of a way to measure material wealth, without actually possessing said materials, lines have become harder and harder to draw. We promote a philosophy that states hard work should be rewarded and laziness punished. Yet, it would be naive to believe that we live in environments where hard work is currently the sole factor in a person’s achievements. Not all those who struggle lack ambition and not all those who excel did the work necessary. There might have been a time that was an ideal truth but we live in … Continue reading

Honestly

Honesty: What is honesty? Is it telling someone the truth or is it telling them the truth they need to hear? The problem with speaking the unvarnished, pure truth is we run the risk of hurting an individual or showing them something they weren’t ready to see. Most people aren’t afraid of the truth but at the same time they might not be in the right state of mind to deal with what their senses are telling them.

If that’s the case when will they be ready and is silence the best course of action? There is always the option to verbalise or show a person only the “necessary” truth; the parts of it they can handle. Some say a half truth is a lie – me being one of them. In the end, leaving truth up to interpretation means someone is always lying. There is no truth in interpretation … Continue reading

Nobody Knows You…or You’re Rich

My musings on the current state of copyright laws in relation to art media and those who support its present application.

Nobody knows who you are

I’ve been looking at the issue of copyright for a while now. I’ve come to the conclusion that most of my antipathy isn’t towards big media companies but towards anonymous content creators who’ve bought into the company line. This is not to say those same companies have no blame in the whole endeavour but a solution should sometimes be approached from the bottom up. Those who feed the creative material into the system invariably are situated at the foundation. Maybe after years without recognition they’ve started to forget that they are the fuel that keeps the machine called entertainment running. Maybe they’ve forgotten that without their mass support the system would have to change to accommodate their needs and wants.

With that in mind, … Continue reading
