The Same Stories – Outlet

This is the beginning of a project the working title “The Same Stories”. Within any community where the rise from poverty is one of the main struggles those with insight are usually saying the same things; it’s, hard, it’s not acceptable and above all lacks the fairness that the broader community is based upon. These ideas might sound different coming from different people but in fact they are the same stories only being told from a myriad of perspectives. Within that community of powerless growing towards powerful individuals there is also the black story. Without those who have come before me telling theirs I may not have made it out of my own struggles to where I am now. One thing missing from those stories usually is an explanation, A why. The cause and effect might seem obvious and it is but without visible solutions knowing the problem becomes almost … Continue reading

Laziness [Lay – Z – ness]

They said my laziness
Is tied to the lack of craziness
Maybe it’s ‘cause they hate me less
Don’t even know why I stress
Some say I look tired
I need to rest
Others saying
Get up
Get back to work
Don’t you know you’re blessed
Do you want to have babies
Yes
But I don’t want to raise them in this crazy mess
Maybe with this lady Tess
Or this girl named Jess
With the crazy chest
How many times did you say crazy
Maybe less
But if this was a video
You would have heard somebody
Adlib
Say
Maybe
TRES
But it was really
CUATRO
To let you know I’m
Loco
Comme los vatos
So you know
I’ll kill your chien
If you touch my gatos
Translate
Leave you ‘matos’
They said my lack of craziness
Is tied to my laziness
And that may be yes
But I … Continue reading

100 Day Story: Day 00006

He didn’t come home early yesterday
He wasn’t late
Either
Just a strange feeling
About it
Nerves
Maybe
But she still didn’t feel great
About it
She remembered the last time she had this feeling
She had ignored it for months
Leading to devastation
Months
Of healing
It shouldn’t hurt
She thought
To ask him this evening
But it had been early
When she got the text
He’d be late tonight
Alright
This shouldn’t be enough to start a fight
But she couldn’t sleep
Right away
She snapped awake
On the couch
When she heard a sound
That was more than the TV in the background
“Waiting for me?”
He asked her
That smile
Hadn’t been on his face in a while
Directed at her
Made her return it
“Maybe…”
But that didn’t change her question
“Why were –“
“I was talking to Truth.”
Her face twisted
Slightly
Thinking
“Truth … Continue reading

To My Wife

It’s funny right
You’re reading this
Seeing this
Might be somewhere in the future
Might be at the end of my life
I knew you were my type
Could have been what you looked like
5’5”
That height
That night
Lips
That smile
Curves
Waist that moved
Sigh
Imagery
But not reality
That’s not what I act like
The fact right
I caught a glimpse
From the back
Right
Silhouette
You turned left
Walked away
I couldn’t even tell what you looked like
Took like
The right opportunity
Before we talked
Shared common ground
Back story
What brought you here
The almighty
Holy
You sound so religious
But it was spirituality
That moved us closer
Slowly
Ever since that first day
We agreed that
You wanted to get to know me
Funny right
You’re reading this
Seeing this
Knowing I liked your skirts
Tight
Visualising every curve
Your eyes
Telling … Continue reading

Interest

This is for you
Yes you
The one hesitating
Questioning
Does he share my interest
Does he like me
Yes he likes you
What are is true inter –tents
Something
Something
The power of the internet
Allows him to tell you
Since first you met
Time the river
Didn’t erode
As it usually might do
It’s the face
The grace
Nervousness
Hidden by that need to be confident
He could see right through
There was never a place
So he left it alone
Never forgetting your hips
And the conversations
You never had
Thinking to yourself
He has no interest
And rejection
Would feel a little bad
Yes you
This is for you
How do you know
Because you remembered that time
You would have liked to
Meet lips to lips
Or hoped he would write you
A poem so touching
It would feel as if
It was your body … Continue reading
