A Part of What It Takes

What do you think the biggest problem is that we are facing as a nation? What is a possible solution?

As I was reading this question, I was finding it difficult to answer. I’ve never really thought about or looked into what the biggest problem facing Canada as a nation is. Then I started to wonder how many other Canadians are there that have also never thought about this. The fewer people that know about the problems we are facing, the fewer people there are that pay attention to the world around them. If everyone is caught up in their own bubble then it is not possible for all of us to have the same goal. Thinking about it that way leads me to believe the biggest problem facing Canadians is the fact that we do not have a common focus. In order for us to be great we all must have a similar idea as to how we want our country to be.

One necessary part of the solution is to find someone who knows how to bring people together and can get them to listen to what is being said. Using that person’s voice as a rallying point we can create a goal that encompasses everyone. Many of us have a mindset that is like, “If it doesn’t affect me, why should I care?” Things cannot improve if no one cares about what is going on so we must find a way to make people want to care. This involves asking for and listening to people’s opinions/ideas, figuring out what the similarities are between what everyone would like to see happen, and creating a goal that benefits the majority of Canadians. The more people that benefit from it the more people will help. If we all come together to try to come up with a common focus it will lead to cultural unity and bring us together as a nation. This does not mean that everyone will necessarily start thinking the same way or get along, but there will be an understanding among us if we all want the same thing.

Creating a common focus is not an easy task to accomplish by any means but I do believe it is possible. All we need is someone with patience who will have the devotion to see it through to the end. It only takes one person to make a difference.
