Welcome

100 Day Story: Day 001

It was late
She was wide awake
A yawn
Looking forward to the dawn
Monday morning
It had been a year
Since she and he
Had talked
And looking down
At her bundle of joy
With sorrow in her heart
And her arms
Curled to
Soothe
Maybe too tight
Catching herself she let go
She looked further right
And the dark wall of heat
Turned away
She had another six months
But she needed to breathe
The air had gotten light
The house could no longer
Accommodate her height
Escape
Wrong word
But it seemed right
To get away
Work
Was her window
For time to herself
So she could be left with
Her mind and herself
No more crying
Waking in time
For her health
She should be grateful
But how
When her mother
Had stated her content
With
“Now you’ll see.
You have one for yourself.”
Then there came
The pang of hurt
Guilt
Why was this
How she felt
Her past had seen this moment
Different
Didn’t
Seem to be in her future
So the feeling wouldn’t leave her
She longed for a night
With a knight
Even in charcoal armour
Because coal
Could one day become diamonds
Maybe it didn’t work that way
But it would be a better start
Her mind drifted
From the scene
Under the comforter
To a place where somebody
Held her steady
Comforts her
He came to mind with the thought
And passed
He was her past
She’d already moved past
But the memory
Was clear
Pushing her back
To the here
And her ear
Caught the sound of cooing
Left her with warmth
Feeling relieved
She wasn’t evil
And drifted off
No dream
Just sleeping
