Welcome

100 Day Story: Day 1

She woke up yawning
Turning to the phone ringing
Singing that song
In her head she finds herself humming along
Caller ID says mom
It was who she expected
Wanted was another name
Her thoughts before the ring
Was that things would never be
The same
But it wouldn’t hurt
To see his name
“Morning mom, it’s kind of early.
Couldn’t you have waited till later?”
Apparently not
“Your well being was greater.”
So they banter
Daughter speaking about her week
Mother berates her
Daughter gets frustrated
“Okay mom, I’ll talk to you
later…”
She lays in bed thinking
About the conversation
And maybe her mother was right
There was no reason for her to
Have reservations
For the date
Had already been made
The morning was still young
And the sound beside her
Made her turn to face the other figure
In the picture
He was to some a piece written
From scripture
You know
Textbook achiever
Who made her parents a believer
And she knew she wasn’t happy
But with all that was fact
Why would they believe her
As she looked at him
She knew life was comfortable
The sleeper wasn’t awake
But neither were her feelings
Either
They seemed to be elsewhere this morning
Thinking about being persuaded
In another bad situation
But not succumbing
Regretting a mistake
So going against her better
Judgement this time around
Had been easier
But thoughts of that first situation
Wouldn’t leave her
Maybe if she had heard his voice
One more time
This would have been easier
