Welcome

100 Day Story: Day 2

It was a day later
Sunday
Her mother had made an appointment
For lunch
She looked at her Watch
It was still early
Five past ten
They’d been walking around for a while
But then again
The market wasn’t such a bad place
The sites, the tastes
Not to mention it was public
Just in case
She’d left her significant other sleeping
Or so it seemed
He was dreaming
At peace deeply breathing
But glances her mother threw
Gave her this feeling
And there would come a point
When her mother would
Share the meaning
Meaning as hungry as she was
Lunch could wait
She wasn’t curious about
The feeling
“Did you miss breakfast again?”
“Yes mother.”
“You know you should take better
Care of yourself. That means eating…”
There it was gain…the feeling
“Let’s grab a bite, we’ve been
Walking a while so somewhere
Private
Where there’s seating.”
This feeling…
“But isn’t it too early for lunch?”
Her voice was pleading
As they walked onto the patio
Of the cafe
Her mother chose an awning
Out of the way
That was to say
She made it clear
She had something to say
“He called me this morning.”
“Who?”
“Your fianc –”
But that couldn’t be
He was sleeping wasn’t he
This feeling…
“Are you listening?”
“Yes mother.”
“He said he was feeling as if
You were losing faith in your partnership.”
When words come out
It’s funny how the tongue slips
Partnership
“He said your happiness was his goal
But lately he seems to be cut off
From your soul.
He feels like a floating half
To a –”
“I get it. but this isn’t
For you to meddle in so let it
Stay where it is. Leave it alone.”
There was a saying about turning stones
And what you may find
And she’d made up her mind
That what was on her mind
Would stay in her mind
“It’s him isn’t it? That other.”
“Mother!”
Luckily the food came
And slowed down the chatter
But why would he call her mother
And her interest had been waning a while
So why now
Why does it matter
She had already said yes
And it’ll soon be
Until death do they part
Together forever
She had accepted her fate
For the error in her past decisions
So why couldn’t they all just
Let her be
And she glanced at her phone
Hoping to see
That name
He must have heard
They shared friends mutually
But then again expecting a call
Seemed futile
Why would he?
