Welcome

Chicken Scratch

Me and my chicken scratch
What came first
That line
Or the idea that hatched
From the half-a-dozen
The ugly one in the batch
Dis-
Jointed
Awk-
Ward
Couldn’t find
The rhymes to match
Couldn’t find
A door to latch
Locked in
Windows gone
Boxed in
Sitting close to trash
Encouraging quick decisions
To bumpy roads
Not quite
But something close to rash
Looking for incredible outcomes
Not quite
So I do something close to dash
Towards the exit
Underneath the floor
So now I’m underground
Snap
Snap
Poet
Say no more
Well
Just a post script
About how sometimes
We all feel like
We’re at the receiving end
Of a twitching lash
Unseen tears
Giving us wishes
On a fallen lash
So I say
If you can’t find your door
Then find your candle
Find your match
And the light and heat
Might help you hatch
And grow ideas
More profound than
Me and my chicken scratch
